When the Good Will Hose Company began it only had 8 members and held all it's meetings in the Sixth Ward School. In 1905 they finally accumulated enough money to buy this plot of land, and erected a building.

After 10 years, they finally raised enough money to purchase a horse drawn carriage from another neighborhood fire company. It wasn't until 8 years later that they were able to purchase their first combination chemical and hose truck.

In 1931 they renovated the building. In 1935 a new truck was acquired and was used until 1950 when a new truck was purchased. After 20 years they acquired another new truck, and in 1978 they spent $82,000 for a pumper truck.

The building currently housing the Good Will Hose Company was constructed in 1958. Although, it would seem that they were not always the first to get new equipment, they were the first company to insulate their building to conserve energy.

The Good Will Hose Company owns the playground area located between 6th & 7th Streets, and between Reagan & Line Streets. This playground was once one of the best playgrounds in Sunbury.

Growing up the playground also had 2 buildings. That's where we could play table tennis, board games, color, and learn. It was supervised by 2 "officials" that would answer all our inquisitions, teach us games, and encourage us in friendly contests. They also took us on local field trips to community swimming pools, and other local area places.

The playground would stay open late some nights so we could enjoy movie nights. They would place a screen on one the walls, and show on of the latest Disney movies for all of us. We also had periodic visits from area people to teach us arts & crafts.

The Good Will Hose Company playground would also have a yearly carnival right in the middle of the playground. It would bring in area vendors with traveling carnival rides, and the neighborhood had a ball. The Good Will Hose Company also sponsored a yearly Easter Egg Hunt.

People would come from all over Sunbury to enjoy the Good Will's carnival and Easter Egg Hunt.

Financial restraints, new playground regulations, and vandalism were partly to blame in the demise of this once great playground.

We can't do this without the support of the Good Will, the City of Sunbury, numerous fundraisers, and the support of the community. Please help us restore this to another safe place for our children to play in and enjoy.

"Good Will…it's more than a fire company - it's a state of mind"
